Around seven months ago, I was talking to a friend about how we would like to develop our professional life. To my surprise, she totally disagreed with my ideas! I was strictly committed to the idea of creating my own business and she wanted to develop her career at a company. As a matter of fact, I had never had a job which I considered a complete experience to decide that company life was not for me, but I just didn't consider myself to suit that profile. However, something my friend told me that day continued to stick with me, “Why not being an important part of something big, something great?”
Some time after, I was looking for a flexible internship that would allow me to handle other work and university obligations. I ended up getting an interview (and eventually, a job) at Bunny Inc.
I had some good feelings about this company, but I was still skeptical of the idea of working for someone else, like it would be a slap in the face. But, this exercise in “working for someone else” led to:
1. Developing myself as a person and as a professional.
Like in any other successful company, every team member at Bunny inc. has performance metrics. The beauty in this company lies with the Personal Development Plan (PDP). I had been fighting procrastination to accomplish some personal goals. It seemed like they never had priority.
At Bunny Inc., I set personal goals just as if they were part of my daily job. I must work on my personal tasks and the result will go straight to my monthly score. Bunny Inc. also has an open information policy. That means I can see what everyone is working on and get to know another area/s of the business.
I can actually shadow another team member as part of the Apprenticeship program and learn more about my area or another, e.g Marketing, Finances, Operations, Engineering, Client Services.
2. Working WITH talented, skilled, and awesome people.
Bunny Inc.’s continued growth definitely relies on its team. While working here, I've got to meet musicians, dancers, entrepreneurs, football players, finance ninjas, voice over talents, runners, bikers, designers, engineers, business managers, economists, and I could go on…
What makes these people awesome? They are all always willing to share their strengths and work on their weaknesses. We all make mistakes. Bunny Inc. team members don’t just point out my mistakes, they help me and give me the tools to correct them and be better everyday.
3. Being part of a team and a company culture far away from those schemes I dreaded.
Company culture is one of Bunny Inc.’s major assets. Aside of the cool perks of working here: always having food to grab, playing video games, playing “Bunny games” instead of active pauses, listening to music at the office, and working from home, here, I’ll never find someone who’s micromanaging me all the time.
We have deadlines here, and there’s lots of work to be done, this is a business after all. However, I’m not a kid that must be controlled and be told to dress or act a certain way, or do my homework.
In addition to this sense of freedom, I've got to work with people from different countries, with different backgrounds and life experiences. Listening to all of them really enriches my days.
4. Realizing that if you’re passionate about something, you’re going to find your place to be, whether it’s at your own business or at some kick-ass team that someone started.
We all know life is full of uncertainty. There are times when it’s difficult to find a path to reach our goals.
At Bunny inc. I realized that my way is not the only way, the important thing is to be passionate about what you do, mastering every task you are assigned, work hard and smart. When I did so, I always heard that voice telling me “something’s about to happen”, giving me the strength to wait for my shot and to be ready for it.
A few months ago, the thought of working for a company instead of building my own wouldn't have crossed my mind, not even by accident. Now, something has changed. I can say out loud that I totally recommend working at a company, not every company, but at one where you feel you can dream big and actually make those dreams come true.
I’ve just assumed a new role at Bunny Inc. with new responsibilities and goals. Now, I’m a full time team member of Bunny Inc.’s Operations team. Everyday, I contact people all around the world and help them launch or grow their voice over career.
It’s great to know that through my work, VoiceBunny’s talent database is quickly growing and we are improving the experience of our clients everyday.
Challenging as it is, everyday I feel I’m drawing upon my entrepreneurial spirit and that certainly moves me.
After all, “Why not be an important part of something big, something great?”
